Tea brings a universal smile.
It is warm, understood in virtually every language,
and welcome around the globe.

The British social custom of Afternoon Tea was introduced around 1840 by Anna the seventh Duchess
of Bedford (1783-1857).
Historians attribute to her the late afternoon ritual of snacking on sandwiches and pastries accompanied by tea.

Afternoon Tea is generally served between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. in order to quell hunger pangs
between breakfast and dinner (which was typically served at 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. in England).

Eventually two types of tea time evolved. Low Tea was aristocratic in origin and consisted
of a snack of pastries and sandwiches, with tea, served late in the afternoon as a prelude
to the evening meal.

High Tea served in the more traditional British way harkens back to when the working class of
England stopped for a light supper around 5:00 p.m. This High Tea refueled farmers and other
laborers for returning to the fields while there were still a few hours of daylight.

What is "A Tea" like at Crumpets Tea Room?

"Tea" at Crumpet's is a warm welcome and a special event to be enjoyed by all who attend.
When you arrive, there will be punch, scones, curd and breads at your table.
We always feature 2 specialty brewed teas. Servers come around with
trays of savories, delicious appetizers and finger sandwiches.
We usually have at least 7 savories. Plates are refreshed and then the desserts begin.
We always have at least 3. Your servers are sure to keep your tea cups filled.
This event lasts approximately 2 hours. It is a great way to spend time with friends or family.
A relaxing day will be had by all. And don't let the petite savories fool you - you won't leave hungry.
The real difference between our Afternoon Tea and Evening High Tea is that
the Evening Tea has more hot savories like Evening Tea in England.
Whether you come for Afternoon or Evening Tea - we're sure you'll have an enjoyable time.

Take time for tea!
