Discovery Center, Riverfront Museum Park, Rockford Art Museum 711 N. Main St. 815/963-6769 About: The main museum building at 813 N. main Street contains natural history exhibits of birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, rocks, minerals, fossils and American Indian artifacts. The South annex at 737 N. Main St. features a major exhibit about American Indians called " Indians of the Rock River Valley. Admission to the museum is $3; $1 for children; free to under 2. Open 11 am to 5 pm Tuesdays-Saturdays; 1pm to 5 pm Sundays. Members are admitted free. Call 815/965-3132 or 815/965-3433. The Discovery Center is a hands-on family-oriented museum that helps children and adults explore scientific principles and promotes interest in the arts and sciences. An outdoor science park, the first in the United States, has exhibits on sound, water and weather. Free day is Thursdays from 1 pm to 5 pm. Children 2 and younger members are admitted free. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday; noon to 5 pm Sundays.

The Erlander family lived in the home until 1951, when the youngest daughter, Mary, sold the home to the Swedish Historical Society of Rockford. The society opened the museum in 1952 with many of the original furnishings still intact. Graham-Ginestra House 1115 S. Main St. 815/965-3992 or 815/964-8333 About: Built in 1857, it is on the National Register of Historic Sites, Rockford's first commissioned landmark. Open by reservation and for special events.
Midway Village and Museum 6799 Guilford Rd. 815/ 397-9112 About: The village features authentically restored and furnished homes, shops, and businesses with costumed guides and much more.
Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum 411 Kent St. 815/964-2424 About: Built in 1865, the Swiss style home features elaborate parquet floors, detailed woodwork and intricately painted wall and ceiling murals. The cottage was built by Robert H. Tinker on a prominent limestone bluff overlooking the banks of Kent Creek, the location of Rockford's founding in 1834. The cottage is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Admission is $3; $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children, 17 and younger. Open Tuesdays- Sundays with tours at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm; Wednesdays free.

These pathways are used for a stroll, power walk, jog, run, pedal, skate, or healthy exercise..visit the following pathways:
Charles Street Community Pathway...South side of Charles St. between Quentin Dr. (near Hilander Store) and Arnold Ave....plans for the future are to keep expanding eastward to Perryville Rd. pathway and Cherryvale Mall.
Cherry Valley Pathway...Between Swanson Parkway & Valley Woods Drive... 1-1/4 mile paved pathway... Path can be reached from Vandiver Rd, located south of Kegel's Motorcycle Store and Diner with parking at the old Menard's store..(across from Cherryvale Shopping Center).
Mel Anderson Memorial Pathway...Northwest Rockford...3-mile paved pathway...park at Talcott-Page park on Arthur Ave...or Northwest community center at 1325 N. Johnston Ave...or Searls Park at Kilburn and Central Ave...or Lockwood Park on Safford Rd.
PerryVille Pathway...there are 14.9 miles in this path system...Can begin at Argus Drive. (near Home Depot Store)...there are future plans to extend this further...or can start at Trainer Rd at the Saturn Playground and continue north to Riverside Blvd.
Rock River Recreation Path ...start at either south of YMCA...downtown Davis Park...State St. bridge...Jefferson St. Pedestrian Bridge...Sinnissippi Gardens...through Shorewood & Martin Parks...and on....Whew..tired yet?
Willow Creek Path...Machesney Park project....begin at Harlem High School on North Alpine Rd....extends into Loves Park and Rock Cut State Park....also continue east on a 2.3 mile bike lane to Olson Beach... parking available at Harlem High School and Rock Cut State Park.

Brown Park ...Offers a .5 mile paved path with parking and tennis courts, also a small shelter and playground...located at 2010 N. Main St. Rockford
Dahlquist Park ...Located off East State St. and Fairview Ave. Rockford... has a .43 mile walking path...has a shelter, playground, tennis courts, ball diamonds,& horseshoe pits.
Landstrom Park ...Located behind Forest Hills Country Club of Spring Creek and Landstrom Roads...Has a 3/4 mile paved path....there is a play area with tennis courts.
Mulford Crest Park ...located at 5650 Grove Hill Rd., Rockford... has .46 mile paved path...situated in a residential area.
Wantz Park...located at 600 Clifford Ave., Rockford...has .5 mile path....also has a playground, shelter, & ball diamond....parking is along Clifford, Dale, or Garden Plain Aves.
